Despite his struggles early in his career, he remains the top internal choice to start in center field in 2023, although the Reds have inquired on some free-agent center fielders. "He's done a great job of taking care of himself," manager David Bell said of Senzel. "He looks really good. I mean, it's tough for anyone to manage their weight and their physical conditioning when you can't run or do anything, so I give him a lot of credit." Jake Fraley and TJ Friedl will be left-handed hitting options to fill Cincy's outfield next year alongside right-handed hitters Stuart Fairchild and Nick Solak.

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (foot) has been scratched from the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs after fouling a ball off his foot on Tuesday night. It means that India will finish his 2022 season with a disappointing .249/.327/.378 slash line with 10 home runs, 41 RBI, 48 runs scored and three stolen bases in 386 at-bats a year after winning the National League Rookie of the Year award. With India on the bench for the season finale, rookie Spencer Steer is starting at second base and hitting sixth against Cubs right-hander Adrian Sampson. Steer is hitting just .207 (19-for-92) with two homers, seven RBI and 24 strikeouts in his first 27 big-league contests.

The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder TJ Friedl (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right hamstring strain and activated catcher Aramis Garcia (finger) from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. The Reds also activated right-hander Robert Dugger (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and designated him for assignment. The 27-year-old Friedl will miss the team's final two regular season games this week. In his first full MLB season this year, Friedl finishes with a .240/.314/.436 slash line with eight home runs, 25 RBI, 33 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 258 plate appearances and 72 games.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Justin Dunn (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday and throw 50 to 55 pitches. He is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list on Friday, which means he could be able to make one more start for the Reds before the end of the 2022 regular season. The 27-year-old landed on the injured list on Sept. 15 with right shoulder tightness, but he's made quick progress after missing the first three months of the season with a similar issue. Because of all the missed time due to injury this year, Dunn has made just seven starts for Cincy, going 1-3 with a 6.10 ERA (8.31 FIP), a 1.58 WHIP and a 21:17 K:BB in 31 innings. He won't be a streaming option with a fantasy title on the line if he makes another start for the Reds.

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Daniel Duarte (elbow) has been activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Louisville. Duarte will get some work in at the team's Triple-A affiliate in order to rehab his elbow. He appeared in just three games out of the Reds' bullpen this season but he's got a shot to get some work in with the big league club before the year is over.

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Art Warren (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list. This was just a procedural move to clear some roster space. Warren is going to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing elbow surgery earlier in September anyway. He should be ready to return for spring training next year.

The Cincinnati Reds placed left-hander Mike Minor (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list on Friday with left shoulder soreness and reinstated right-hander Connor Overton (back) from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. The team also sent catcher Aramis Ramirez (finger) on a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville and moved outfielder Nick Senzel (toe) to the 60-day IL. Minor was originally scheduled to start on Friday against the Brewers, but instead he'll likely miss the rest of the season. The 34-year-old had a rough season in his first year in Cincy, going 4-12 with a bloated 6.06 ERA (6.18 FIP), a 1.63 WHIP and a 76:40 K:BB in 98 innings over his 19 starts.

Cincinnati Reds rookie right-hander Graham Ashcraft (biceps) had a minor league rehab start to forget with Triple-A Louisville on Monday night. He allowed eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits while walking none and striking out five in 2 2/3 innings of work. The good news is he didn't allow a home run and struck out five, but the Reds will probably want to see him make another rehab start in the minors before reinstating him from the injured list. The 24-year-old last pitched for the Reds on Aug. 19. Before his injury, Ashcraft had gone 5-3 with a 3.97 ERA (3.92 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP and a 64:23 K:BB in 93 innings over his first 16 major-league starts for Cincy.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (head) is back in the starting lineup on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals and right-hander Miles Mikolas, serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. It's the first time that Fraley will return to the lineup since being drilled in the head by a pitch in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. The 27-year-old was quickly able to pass through the league's concussion protocol and is in a great spot to produce some counting stats on Thursday. He's been much better against right-handed pitchers this year, too, hitting .263 (36-for-137) with nine of his 10 home runs and 20 RBI in 52 games. Fraley has just four hits in 26 at-bats against lefties.

The 27-year-old left-handed hitter didn't play in Game 2 and remains out on Wednesday, but the good news is he hasn't displayed any concussion symptoms. Consider Fraley to be day-to-day for now. With Fraley out again on Wednesday, TJ Friedl will get the start in left field and will bat leadoff against Pirates right-hander Roansy Contreras. Friedl, who also bats from the left side, has been better against lefties in a small sample size this year, but five of his six homers have come against right-handers.

Shortstop Kyle Farmer has been shifted to the hot corner in recent days, although Moran could find his way into the lineup occasionally with Matt Reynolds (hip) also on the shelf.
