Although the Chicago White Sox "need another starter," according to pitching coach Ethan Katz, he doesn't believe "starting is in the cards" for left-hander Garrett Crochet (elbow) next season. However, Crochet could serve as a multi-inning reliever. It's not a huge surprise after the 23-year-old southpaw had Tommy John surgery in April of this year. On top of it, he has only thrown 60 1/3 innings in 59 relief appearances in his first two major-league seasons. The good news is that Crochet has been throwing from 120 feet, although it remains to be seen if he'll be ready by Opening Day in 2023. Fantasy managers in single-year leagues will want to avoid Crochet next year.

Chicago White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz said that right-hander Michael Kopech's (knee) rehab from knee surgery is a bit more gradual than expected, but the team still expects him to be ready for spring training. The Chicago White Sox placed right-hander Michael Kopech (knee) on the 15-day injured list with a left knee strain on Tuesday and recalled left-hander Tanner Banks from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Kopech was removed from his start early on Monday against the Kansas City Royals, and he won't be eligible to return until Sept. 7 at the earliest. Even if the 26-year-old returns when he's eligible, there won't be much time left for him to make much of an impact for his fantasy managers. In 23 starts in 2022, Kopech has gone 4-9 with a 3.58 ERA (4.44 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and a 98:55 K:BB in 110 2/3 innings pitched. It remains to be seen who will replace him in Chicago's starting rotation.

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) was walking around the clubhouse on Monday like nothing ever happened to his knee. "It's amazing," skipper Tony La Russa said. Grandal left the clubhouse on Sunday on crutches. He's getting treatment but is also "taking a few swings" in the cages, according to La Russa. The White Sox placed the 33-year-old veteran on the 10-day injured list on Sunday after he was injured on a slide on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians. Unless he suffers a setback, it sounds as though Grandal has a great chance to return when he's eligible. With Grandal sidelined, Seby Zavala should be the team's primary backstop. Grandal has struggled mightily at the plate in 2022, slashing .203/.307/.259 with three homers, 21 RBI and nine runs scored in 251 at-bats.

Kopech didn't make it very far in this one, getting pulled after allowing all four batters he faced to reach base on just 19 pitches. The 26-year-old right-hander was charged with four earned runs allowed on one hit, two walks and a hit batter. It remains to be seen if Kopech will make his next scheduled start on Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Entering his start on Monday, Kopech had a solid 3.25 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 98:53 K:BB in 110 2/3 innings over 22 starts for the Pale Hose. The organization believes that Grandal can return to action within the next 10-14 days. The team also moved right-hander Kyle Crick to the 60-day injured list. Grandal was injured sliding into home plate on Saturday and will now miss at least the next 10 days. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter has done very little for fantasy managers in 2022, hitting .203/.307/.259 with three homers, 21 RBI and nine stolen bases in 251 at-bats. Seby Zavala should take over the primary catching duties for the White Sox with Grandal sidelined. Zavala has been much better offensively, hitting .279/.326/.395 with two long balls, 18 RBI and 15 runs in 129 at-bats.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert (wrist) will make his return to the lineup Friday night against the Cleveland Guardians. Robert had been nursing a sprained left wrist that caused him to miss the White Sox last 7 games, but after receiving a cortisone shot earlier in the week he is feeling better and is ready to make his return. Robert will hit second and play center field for the Chi-Sox. The 25-year-old star has put up a good season, but has lacked the power we have seen from him previously. He has a .301/.336/.454 slash line with just 12 homers, but has also added 11 steals. Maybe the break to heal his injury will get Robert back on track in the power department, but either way, he is a must-start whenever he is healthy.

The Chicago White Sox will have outfielder Eloy Jimenez (knee) back in their lineup Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians. Jimenez left Friday's game against the Guardians with right knee discomfort after twisting his knee while swinging, which is scary considering his injury history. However, he is feeling better today and will get back in the lineup. Jimenez has been on a tear lately, with a .406/.468/.507 slash line in August, so it is good to see him get right back in the lineup to hopefully continue this hot stretch. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status over the next few weeks, as the oft-injured star may need a game or two off to rest this injury.

Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa said that outfielder Luis Robert (wrist) was sore after swinging a bat on Tuesday and received a cortisone injection to deal with the inflammation. Robert sat out again on Wednesday against the Houston Astros, but La Russa said there's no reason for Robert to go on the injured list. The 25-year-old has missed the last five games, so it's fair to wonder if the oft-injured outfielder will require an IL stint, even if La Russa says he won't go on the list due to a left wrist sprain. We'd be surprised if Robert is back in the lineup on Thursday, but perhaps he can return to the lineup for the weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians. Robert is a must-start fantasy commodity when he's on the field.

In 82 games played, he's hitting .301/.336/.454 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI, 51 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. Adam Engel is starting in center field on Wednesday and is batting eighth against Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. Engel has some speed (11 steals), but he's also hitting just .235 with two home runs and 14 RBI in 196 at-bats this year.
