Chase Edmonds Placed On Injured Reserve
Denver Broncos running back Chase Edmonds (ankle) has been placed on the injured reserve. He'll miss the next four games while he recovers from a high-ankle sprain that he suffered in Week 11. This is bad timing with the team recently waiving Melvin Gordon III. Latavius Murray will be the lead back for the team being. Marlon Mack figures to get mixed in as well, but Murray is the much better fantasy option between the two.

Despite this, the Broncos waived Melvin Gordon III, so Latavius Murray looks to be the clear lead back in Denver. He'll have RB2 upside with an RB1 weekly ceiling if he scores a few touchdowns. Marlon Mack and Devine Ozigbo will likely serve as committee backs behind Murray, but neither warrants much fantasy consideration.

The Denver Broncos acquired running back Chase Edmonds, a first-round pick in 2023 and a fourth-rounder in 2024 from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday in exchange for outside linebacker Bradley Chubb and a fifth-round pick in 2025, according to a source. The first-rounder next year is really what the Broncos were after here. Edmonds quickly fell out of favor in his first year in Miami and had 42 carries for 120 yards (career-low 2.9 yards per carry) and two touchdowns in eight games (two starts). In Denver, his fantasy value may actually go down while joining a backfield that already consists of Melvin Gordon III and Latavius Murray. If the Broncos backfield wasn't frustrating enough for fantasy managers, it just got worse.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (quadriceps) and running back Chase Edmonds (groin) were both removed from the Week 1 injury report on Friday and are good to go for Week 1 against the division-rival New England Patriots. While Waddle won't see as many targets in his second NFL season with All-Pro Tyreek Hill now in the fold, he'll still remain a big part of Miami's passing attack and should be a must-start as a WR2 to kick off the 2022 regular season. Edmonds may have to fend off Raheem Mostert and Myles Gaskin throughout the season, but he enters Week 1 as the clear leader of this backfield. He's a low-end RB2 play for fantasy managers against New England.

The Dolphins have plenty of capable backs behind Edmonds, but the 26-year-old is expected to operate as the team's lead back entering Week 1 of the regular season against the New England Patriots. With that said, Raheem Mostert could steal valuable goal-line touches away from Edmonds this year, limited his overall fantasy ceiling. Edmonds is the best fantasy bet in this backfield on a weekly basis, though, and fantasy managers should consider him a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 play this weekend.

The presence of Raheem Mostert as a potential touchdown vulture will keep Edmonds' fantasy ceiling capped in his first year in Miami, but he's clearly the team's most intriguing fantasy back and should be deployed as a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 in the regular season opener.
