Cordarrelle Patterson Comes Off IR, Will Play In Week 9
The Atlanta Falcons activated running back Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) off Injured Reserve on Saturday, according to sources. He will be back in action in Week 9 against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday after practicing all week. Patterson has missed the last four games, but he'll be ready to go against a Chargers run defense that has been porous so far this year, so the 31-year-old could make some noise right away. However, given the long layoff due to injury, the Falcons could choose to play it safe and ease Patterson back into the offense after heavy usage in 2021. Rookie Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley have seen increased roles with Patterson on the sideline, but they could remain involved on Sunday, making Patterson a tough-to-trust RB3/flex play.

His placement on IR means he'll be out for at least four weeks. Rookie Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley combined for 140 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Browns and will be the featured backs moving forward. Damien Williams (rib) could return soon, too, so he's worth noting. For now, it's tough to say whether Allgeier or Huntley is the player to start in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it'll be a tough matchup against one of the league's premier front sevens in the NFL.
