Eagles RT Lane Johnson to put off abdominal surgery

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson plans to put off abdominal surgery until after the playoffs. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said the versatility of the offensive line benefits Philadelphia in attempting to navigate the final two games of the regular season. ""Lane is the best tackle in the NFL. Obviously when you're missing one of your best players on the team, that's going to affect you," Sirianni said Wednesday. The four-time Pro Bowl selection plans to rehab his torn adductor muscle for the next two to three weeks as the Eagles (13-2) try to lock up the No. 1 playoff seed in the NFC. Sirianni wouldn't close the door on quarterback Jalen Hurts (shoulder) taking the field this week. He sat out the 40-34 loss at Dallas with backup Gardner Minshew at the controls. Sirianni said anyone outside the Eagles' facility doesn't understand or relate to Hurts' toughness. "Does he have a chance? Of course he does," Sirianni said. "We'll see what happens as the week progresses." According to reports, Johnson would miss 10-12 weeks if he undergoes surgery. Johnson, 32, was injured in the fourth quarter Saturday at Dallas. Johnson has not allowed a sack since Week 11 of the 2020 season. Including 15 starts this season, he has started 127 games since Philadelphia drafted him with the No. 4 overall pick in 2013. He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection. The Eagles finish the regular season with home games against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and the New York Giants on Jan. 8. They need one win to clinch the top seed and a first-round playoff bye. --Field Level Media
