Minnesota Timberwolves guard D'Angelo Russell (illness) is back in the starting five for Wednesday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The young guard sat out of their last game due to a non-COVID related illness. It appears Russell is feeling good enough to suit up for Wednesday's contest. He should resume his normal role, which means Jaylen Nowell will head to the bench. He won't have great streaming appeal off the bench, but could still be a deep league option.

Russell was clicking on all cylinders offensively in his first night back, shooting 10-for-14 overall and 7-for-10 from long range, giving fantasy managers a glimpse of his skill set when healthy. He'll face a tough matchup against the Mavs, who are yielding the third-fewest overall DFS points per outing per DraftKings' scoring this season. With Jordan McLaughlin (calf) ruled out, Austin Rivers could snag some minutes with the second unit, but Russell figures to play another sizable role barring a late setback.

He hurt his left knee in Monday's loss to Portland and might now be forced to sit out his first game of the season. Russell has been on a nice run lately, averaging 26.4 points per game across his last five outings, and his absence would be a bitter blow for a team that is already missing Karl-Anthony Towns (calf). With Jordan McLaughlin (calf) remaining out, Jaylen Nowell could be in for a very busy night, and we should see a lot more of Austin Rivers as well if Russell isn't available.
