Gleyber Torres In Game 1 Lineup Against Guardians
New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres (illness) is starting at second base and is batting third in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Tuesday against Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cal Quantrill. Torres wasn't available to close out the regular season, but he rested up last week and is ready to go for the team's first playoff game of 2022. The 25-year-old finished the year off strong, hitting .323 (31-for-96) with six home runs, 25 RBI, 16 runs scored and four stolen bases in 24 games dating back to Sept. 2. Overall, the two-time All-Star batted .257/.310/.451 with 24 home runs, 76 RBI, 73 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 572 plate appearances and 140 games for the Yanks.

DJ LeMahieu is getting the start at the keystone and is hitting leadoff on Wednesday, while Oswald Peraza is at shortstop and batting fifth against Rangers right-hander Glenn Otto.

Torres was feeling under the weather on Monday and was scratched from the lineup, but perhaps he'll return to action for Game 2. Consider him day-to-day to close out the regular season. With Torres out for another game, rookie Oswald Peraza is getting the start at the keystone and is hitting sixth against Rangers right-hander Jon Gray. In his first 39 major-league at-bats over 15 games played, Peraza has 13 hits (no homers), just one RBI, five runs scored and six strikeouts for the Yanks.

New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres (illness) was scratched from the starting lineup on Monday against the Texas Rangers because he's "under the weather," according to skipper Aaron Boone. Torres should be considered day-to-day for the final regular season series of 2022, but hopefully he'll be able to play either Tuesday or Wednesday before the team kicks off the American League Division Series next week. With the 25-year-old sitting out, Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start at shortstop and bat seventh against Rangers left-hander Martin Perez on Monday.
