Tigers reach one-year deal with LHP Moore
The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a one-year deal with left-handed pitcher Matt Moore, the club announced on Tuesday. The deal will be worth between $2.5 million and $3 million guaranteed, MLB.com reported last week. "Matt is a veteran left-handed starting pitcher with a solid three-pitch mix that we see competing for a spot in our rotation next season," Tigers general manager Al Avila said. "He has the ability to effectively use the whole strike zone with his arsenal, and we're excited for him to join our organization." Moore, 29, is coming off a porous campaign in which he went 3-8 with a 6.79 ERA in 39 appearances (12 starts) for the Texas Rangers. Moore's best season was in 2013 when he went 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA in 27 starts and made the American League All-Star team for the Tampa Bay Rays. He missed most of the following two seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The Rays traded Moore to the San Francisco Giants during the 2016 season. Moore's 15 losses in 2017 tied for most in the National League. He went 12-20 with a 5.12 ERA in parts of two seasons with the Giants before he was traded to the Rangers. Moore is 54-56 with a 4.56 ERA in 179 career appearances (149 starts) over parts of eight seasons. --Field Level Media
