Braves name Kranitz new pitching coach

The Atlanta Braves on Thursday announced they have hired Rick Kranitz as their new pitching coach. Kranitz, 60, was the pitching coach for the Philadelphia Phillies last season and the Milwaukee Brewers for five years (2011-15). ?I?m thrilled to add Rick to our coaching staff,? Braves manager Brian Snitker said. ?Right from the start of the interview process, Rick stood out with his knowledge, credentials, and experience. He has had a lot of success developing young talent and he is going to have a big impact getting the most out of all of our pitchers.? Kranitz replaces Chuck Hernandez, with whom the Braves parted ways after the season. Atlanta ranked fifth in the National League with a 3.75 ERA this past season. They ranked last in the NL in walks allowed (635). Kranitz pitched in five minor league seasons for the Brewers, who selected him in the fourth round of the 1979 draft. Kranitz retired following the 1985 season with a career record of 37-39 and a 3.98 ERA in 119 games (79 starts). Kranitz began his coaching career in the Chicago Cubs organization. --Field Level Media
