Indians sign RHP Carrasco to extension through 2023
The Cleveland Indians exercised their option on starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco for the 2020 season and signed the right-hander to a two-year extension with a club option for 2023, the club announced Thursday. Carrasco?s option for 2020 is for $10.25 million, according to The Athletic. According to multiple reports, he will make $12 million in both 2021 & '22, and the '23 club option is worth $14 million with a $3 million buyout. Carrasco, 31, is set to make $9.75 million next season after the Indians picked up that 2019 option in late October. The extension comes amid trade rumors involving two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer, both of whom the Indians have reportedly made available in multiple trade discussions. Carrasco finished 17-10 with a 3.38 ERA last season. He tied for the major league lead with two complete games. In 2017, his 18 wins tied for the MLB lead and he finished fourth in American League Cy Young Award voting. Carrasco has played his entire career with the Indians, amassing a 79-62 record over nine seasons. He was acquired in 2009 in the deal that sent Cliff Lee to the Philadelphia Phillies. --Field Level Media
