Report: Twins still a factor in Carlos Correa pursuit
The Minnesota Twins have reportedly re-entered the Carlos Correa sweepstakes as the New York Mets are becoming "frustrated" with their ongoing negotiations with the All-Star infielder. "There is a possibility the Minnesota Twins come in and pick Correa out from under the New York Mets' noses," The Athletic's Jim Bowden told MLB Network Radio on Friday. Correa, 28, batted .291 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs in 136 games last season with the Twins. In November, he opted out of the final two seasons of a three-year, $105.3 million deal to become a free agent. The Mets reached a tentative 12-year, $315 million agreement with Correa last month after his 13-year, $350 million deal with the San Francisco Giants fell through over concerns about a 2014 leg injury. The New York Post reported earlier this week that there is still a "good chance" Correa ends up with the Mets despite concerns about his surgically repaired right leg. Agent Scott Boras has expressed confidence that a deal eventually will get done. Correa is a career .279 hitter with a .357 on-base percentage, a .479 slugging percentage, 155 home runs and 553 RBIs across 888 games with the Houston Astros (2015-21) and Twins. He won a World Series with Houston in 2017, was an All-Star in 2017 and 2021, won American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2015 and earned a Gold Glove at shortstop in 2021. --Field Level Media
