Yankees tab Omar Minaya as senior adviser to baseball ops
The New York Yankees appointed Omar Minaya as the team's senior adviser to baseball operations on Thursday. The move comes on the heels of the Yankees hiring former San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean as an executive adviser to general manager Brian Cashman on Tuesday. Minaya, 64, grew up in Queens and boasts nearly 40 years of front-office experience. After beginning his career with the Texas Rangers in their scouting department from 1985-97, Minaya spent 1997-2002 with the New York Mets before becoming general manager of the Montreal Expos (2002-04). He held the same post with the Mets (2004-10) before joining the San Diego Padres in December 2011 as their vice president of baseball operations. Minaya spent 2015-17 as a senior adviser to the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association before returning to the Mets in 2017 as a special assistant to then-GM Sandy Alderson. He then shuffled into the role of a team ambassador (2020-22). Minaya also worked with Major League Baseball as a consultant for domestic and international amateur scouting initiatives in 2022. --Field Level Media
