Report: Yankees land LHP Carlos Rodon on 6-year, $162M deal

The New York Yankees signed left-handed ace Carlos Rodon to a six-year contract worth $162 million, multiple outlets reported Thursday night. The deal reportedly includes a full no-trade clause. The 30-year-old was an All-Star each of the past two seasons and was considered the best starting pitcher still on the free-agent market. The signing is the Yankees' second major move of the offseason after they enticed star slugger Aaron Judge to return on a nine-year, $360 million deal. Rodon will join a New York rotation that already boasts right-handers Gerrit Cole and Luis Severino and lefty Nestor Cortes. Rodon went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA with a career-high 237 strikeouts in 31 starts this past season, his first and only season with the San Francisco Giants. He opted out after the first year of his two-year contract with the Giants to test the market. In seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox (2015-21), Rodon had a 3.79 ERA and a 42-38 record. He had a breakout year in 2021 when he went 13-5 with a career-low 2.37 ERA and 185 strikeouts against just 36 walks. Rodon, who owns a career 56-46 record and 3.60 ERA, finished fifth in American League Cy Young Award voting in 2021 and sixth in National League Cy Young voting in 2022. --Field Level Media
