Twins pick up $12.7M option on RHP Sonny Gray
The Minnesota Twins exercised their 2023 club option on right-hander Sonny Gray. He will earn $12.7 million next season. Also Monday, shortstop Carlos Correa, as expected, opted out of his contract, and the Twins declined their 2023 club options on right-handed pitchers Chris Archer and Dylan Bundy, as well as infielder Miguel Sano. Gray, 33, started 24 games in Minnesota, his first season with the Twins. He finished 8-5 with a 3.08 ERA, 117 strikeouts and 36 walks in 119 2/3 innings pitched. Acquired in a trade with Cincinnati in March, Gray has a 90-77 record and 3.56 ERA in 247 career games (238 starts) with the Oakland Athletics (2013-17), New York Yankees (2017-18), Reds (2019-21) and Twins. Correa, 28, hit .291 with 22 HRs and 64 RBIs in his only season with the Twins. He spent his first seven seasons with the Houston Astros before signing a three-year, $105.3 million deal with Minnesota this offseason. The contract contained two player opt-out years. Archer, 34, was 2-8 with a 4.56 ERA in 25 starts for the Twins in 2022. Bundy, 29, started a team-leading 29 games and was 8-8 with a 4.89 ERA. Sano, 29, played only 20 games due to injury and had just five hits in 60 at-bats (.083) with one homer and three RBIs. --Field Level Media
