Emily Rizzo, the wife of New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo, experienced her first New York City marathon last fall. She was taken aback by the “electric” atmosphere of the city as spectators encouraged the runners as they powered through the 26.2-mile course through the boroughs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just brought the entire city together in a way I\u2019ve never seen,\u201d<\/em> Emily shared a memory with The Post recently. \u201cJust strangers cheering on strangers, complete support and happiness.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, which Rizzo established in 2012 to assist pediatric cancer patients and their families, will benefit from Emily’s participation in her first marathon, the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon, on Sunday, Nov. 5. Emily will experience the same affection from the audience.<\/p>\n

The Boston Red Sox picked Anthony in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB Draft, and he recently completed his third season in New York. In April 2008, Anthony received a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma.<\/p>\n

What has motivated Emily to complete her marathon adventure is the tenacity of those facing cancer and the unwavering support of their loved ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese kids give it their all to fight cancer and these families give it their all to be there and support each other, I feel honored to put in the work to help support them,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n
