The Jets-Broncos game in Week 5 was the most intriguing showdown between one-win clubs in recent memory. Denver coach Sean Payton’s offseason statements criticized New York’s whole offseason strategy, notably offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who failed to finish the season as Broncos coach in 2022.<\/p>\n
Following the Jets’ 31-21 victory, coach Robert Saleh used the postgame news conference to repay the favour. When questioned about his team’s defensive improvements, Saleh appeared to take a shot at Broncos coach John Fox.<\/p>\n
Payton’s unprompted statements against Hackett and the Jets irritated many Florham Park residents last summer, and the Jets made it obvious this week that they had unfinished business to settle.<\/p>\n

In the end, the Jets triumphed, while the NFL world laughed at Payton and the Broncos. After the game, Saleh and Payton exchanged handshakes at midfield, and the former had some words for his counterpart.<\/p>\n
One Twitter user pointed out that Saleh appeared to advise Payton to “stay humble” after the game.<\/p>\n
Saleh thought his side could have “probably blown that team [the Broncos] out of the water” if they had been more effective in the red zone. Gang Green was 0-5 in what Nathaniel Hackett refers to as the “gold zone.”<\/p>\n
