American professional football coach Bill Belichick is the head coach and general manager of the National Football League’s New England Patriots. He is regarded as one of the greatest head coaches of all time and holds a number of coaching records, including the record for the most Super Bowl victories as a head coach (six), all with the Patriots. He also holds the record for the most Super Bowl victories as a defensive coordinator (two), giving him a total of eight Super Bowl victories in his combined roles as coach and coordinator.<\/p>\n

In 1975, Belichick started his coaching career, and by 1985, he was Bill Parcells’ defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. He was selected as Head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 1991. Bill coached the Browns for 5 seasons and later he joined New England Patriots and after that New York Jets. Belichick accepted the head coaching position with the New England Patriots on January 27, 2000, only one day after being named head coach of the Jets. Since then, he has guided the Patriots to nine Super Bowl appearances, a record six victories, 13 AFC Championship Game appearances, and 17 AFC East division crowns.<\/p>\n

With his 31 career playoff victories, Belichick holds the record for the longest current head coaching tenure in the NFL. He also ranks third in the league’s regular season victories with 298. Only three head coaches in NFL history have won six championships, including him. He was selected as the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2003, 2007, and 2010. In addition, Belichick was chosen for the NFL’s All-Decade Teams for the 2000s and 2010, as well as the NFL’s All-Time roster for its 100th anniversary. He is the only active head coach on the latter team.<\/p>\n
