Gibbs was reportedly a guy garnering some first-round hype earlier this week, so it was startling to see him picked at No. 12 overall. It was so strong that even Gibbs felt it!

https://twitter.com/Jahmyr_Gibbs1/status/1651770209735262209?s=20

While the Georgia Tech transfer may not be a “complete” back who will be dominant in pass protection for example, his skill as a pass catcher and his propensity for making defenders miss are difficult to ignore. Last season, Gibbs ranked third in the SEC in scrimmage yards with 1,370. Gibbs is a weapon, not a running back, similar to Robinson.

“I feel great,” Gibbs said. “I didn’t know I would get picked as high as I did because running backs don’t get picked as high in this new age and new era of the NFL Draft, but it was pretty shocking to me.

“But I’m grateful for the city of Detroit.”

Jahmyr Gibbs said recently that he “originally thought” he was going to be selected in the 20’s.

Gibbs also said the Lions pick was “pretty shocking” to him.

However, the Lions knew they made the right pick.

This video says it ALL 🔥 pic.twitter.com/W0NgC7kHwa

— NFL Rookie Watch (@NFLRookieWatxh) April 28, 2023

After the selection was made, cameras pan to the Lions’ draft room, where head coach Dan Campbell is seen hugging general manager Brad Holmes, who excitedly slaps a table.

“We’ve kind of put Jahmyr in his own separate box and just got really excited about the player,” Holmes said, according to ESPN, which reported the Alabama product was a “favorite” of the GM.

For his part, Gibbs did not anticipate receiving a call so late at night.

Jahmyr Gibbs wanted to be in Detroit because he thinks he can make an impact in the Lions offense pic.twitter.com/njpd8VRjlz

— Brad Galli (@BradGalli) April 28, 2023

Fans of the Detroit Lions will adore Jahmyr Gibbs.
