According to the Austin Police Department, a lady who claimed that Beard had choked her called the police with an urgent disturbance complaint at 12:15 a.m. local time on December 12. Beard, 49, was arrested at 4:18 a.m. at the Travis County Jail, and later that evening Texas suspended him indefinitely. He was replaced as interim coach by Rodney Terry.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: The fianc\u00e9 of UT basketball coach Chris Beard has released a statement saying that \u201cChris did not strangle me\u201d and that \u201cIt was never my intent to have him arrested or prosecuted.\u201d She also said she does not refute that he acted in self defense. I realize that my frustration, when breaking his glasses, initiated a physical struggle between Chris and myself. Chris did not strangle me, and I told that to law enforcement that evening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2022\/12\/12\/chris-beard-texas-basketball-coach-charged-domestic-assault\/69720219007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to the affidavit<\/a>, Trew told police that Beard had choked her five seconds. In addition, she said Beard \u201cthrew me off the bed, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around, and going nuts.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I feel very bad for chris beard\u2019s fianc\u00e9. It was never my intent to have him arrested or prosecuted. The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed.
