At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, the American men’s national basketball team took home the gold medal. The 2008 team’s captain was picked as Kobe Bryant, while Mike Krzyzewski was named head coach. The team was given the moniker “Redeem Team,” a play on the alternate moniker for the illustrious 1992 squad, which was the “Dream Team,” and a nod to the fact that the United States only managed bronze medal finishes at the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2006 FIBA World Championship.<\/p>\n
