Injury is merely a fact of life; it’s not a justification for bad play. The Yankees have recently suffered season-ending injuries to setup men Chad Green (Tommy John surgery) and Michael King (elbow fracture), as well as potentially comeback slugger Matt Carpenter (broken foot). Luis Severino (lat strain) and Giancarlo Stanton (Achilles tendinitis) have also missed a significant amount of time due to injuries. There are a lot of significant guys on the bench.

The Yankees offense has a plethora of issues right now…obviously….but at the top of the list is the way nagging injuries have seemingly zapped the effectiveness of DJ & Stanton. It’s important to understand that the Yankees have recently lost a few incredibly strong and crucial guys to injury.

2) Rotation Gone Wrong

The rotation for New York has declined from being one of baseball’s best at preventing home runs to being almost as bad. While their strikeout percentage remains steady, their walk rate is somewhat higher but still significantly below the MLB average (8.2 per cent of hitters faced). The rotation is essentially pitching the same way it did previously, but with many more balls leaving the yard.

I’m not saying the #Yankees don’t need to fortify their starting rotation in the offseason.

I’m saying that if they do end up losing this series and you’re blaming it on their starting pitching, you are wrong.

This team can’t hit in the clutch right now. The favourite for the AL MVP is hitting.400/.533/.986 in the second half, with 12 home runs. Since the All-Star break, Judge has hit more home runs (12) than the Marlins (11). Moreover, Judge is hitting.366/.486/.756 with runners in scoring position, proving that he hasn’t been padding his stat line in low-stakes situations. He has been amazingly good.
