According to betting odds and NFL insiders, the Buffalo Bills are currently the No.1 favorites for winning the Super Bowl. There’s good reason behind that, with consecutive season QB1 Josh Allen and his formidable offense destroying many of their opponents in the league, racking up 11-6 and 13-3 records the past seasons. However, there’s reason to believe the Bills may not win Super Bowl LVII, the upcoming championship for the 2022 NFL season, due to things like bad playoff luck and bad passing defense.

\nAs mentioned previously, the Bills have been terrific in the regular season, beating their opponents soundly. At one point last season, during a four-game winning streak, the Bills’ margin of victory was 28.8 points<\/a>, approximately 4 touchdowns each having a successful field goal, which is an insane amount of offensive production to consider.<\/p>\n

Bad Passing Defense <\/h2>\n

Unfortunately, this success isn’t fully replicated in the postseason. In fact, in both the 2020 and 2021 playoffs, the Bills faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, and while they had the lead for a portion of each game, the Chiefs would somehow make a play and emerge as the victors.\u00a0Buffalo took a 9-0 lead early in the 2020 AFC title game only for the Chiefs to erase that deficit in fewer than five minutes of game time. One year later, the Bills took a 36-33 lead with 13 seconds to play at Arrowhead Stadium, only to give up a game-tying field goal and get thoroughly ruined by the ensuing coin toss as the Chiefs went on to score.<\/p>\n

Josh Allen played his best to no avail. That much can be attributed to awful luck, and the chances of that happening a third time in the playoffs is slim, but not impossible. However, the Bills have another problem, which is their passing defense. In both cases Josh Allen got hamstrung by awful luck and a passing defense that allowed Patrick Mahomes to throw for more than 700 yards and six touchdowns without an interception. It could be even worse in 2022 with cornerback Tre\u2019Davious White coming off a torn ACL, rookie cornerback Kaiir Elam struggling to defend and 2021 starting corner Levi Wallace now a Pittsburgh Steeler.<\/p>\n
