Historically, the lightweight division has been one of the most talent-stacked divisions in the UFC. Some of the biggest names in the sport have been champions at 155-ponds in the promotion Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and most recently Charles Oliveira to name a few. Given that there have been so many impressive champions at lightweight, it is only natural for a debate to take place on who the best lightweight champion of all time is.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a recent interview with MMA fighting, UFC<\/a> lightweight Terrance McKinney shared his thoughts on the GOAT debate at lightweight. He said<\/a>, <\/span>\u201cI think he\u2019s wrong. I think Charles is better in my opinion,\u201d McKinney said on Between the Links. \u201cHe throws hands. He\u2019s been finishing everyone. He\u2019s not just on [a long winning] streak, he\u2019s finishing people. A lot of Khabib\u2019s fights were decisions, and he didn\u2019t start finishing people until the end.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

McKinney continued, <\/span>\u201cHe did great, he was undefeated, but Charles, to me, is about to be the GOAT of our weight class,\u201d McKinney said. \u201cThat\u2019s my opinion, because he can strike, he can grapple, and he\u2019s just really shown what a champion is \u2014 all of his fights have been entertaining, I haven\u2019t seen one boring fight from him. And I can name a couple of boring fights that I\u2019ve seen from Khabib. He is right, they\u2019re not in the same playing field. [Oliveira is] 100 percent better.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Is Terrance McKinney right in his comparison of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u2018Do Bronx\u2019 has been breaking record after record in his recent fights. The Brazilian champion holds the record for the most submission, most finishes, and most fight night bonuses among other records in the UFC. \u2018The Eagle\u2019 on the other hand, ended his career with a perfect record of 29-0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Both Oliveira and Nurmagomedov make a strong case for being considered the \u2018GOAT\u2019 at lightweight, but it is a discussion that will never find a conclusive answer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
