Which Team Has the Most Wins in MLB Regular Season History?

Unlike other American sporting leagues, Major League Baseball is in a league of its own. All 30 teams in the MLB are subjected to mass exhaustion due to the congested nature of the average seasonal schedule in baseball.

Teams in the NFL (16) and NBA (82) play fewer games on a weekly basis as compared to those in the MLB. Baseball teams play 162 games a season (81 home and 81 away) as they prepare for the playoffs, and eventually the World Series.

But there is one clear winner when it comes to the best winning record, as far as the MLB is concerned.

The mighty New York Yankees lead by example

When it comes to baseball and the MLB, the New York Yankees is the first name that pops into the mind of kids across the globe. The Yankees boast a mammoth 27 World Series title, by far the ‘winningest’ team in the league.

But what is their record when it comes to the regular season? Well, it’s pretty much on the same lines as their display in the playoffs.

The Yankees have played a total of 18,581 regular-season games as part of the AL East division. They have won 10,529 and lost 8,020 of those games with 88 ties. Since making its MLB debut in 1901, the Yankees have a .568 record in the big leagues.

Only the San Francisco Giants have a record that comes close to that of the Yankees (.535 pct). But it must be noted that the Giants boast the most wins in the regular season (11,196), having played 2,000+ more games than the Yankees.

Other teams that are also part of this conversation include the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, and the Chicago Cubs.

Although the Yankees have flown under the radar in recent years, one can’t bet against them in the long term. Sooner or later, they always tend to bounce back. Watch this space for more.
