Fantasy Football: 3 replacements for Chris Godwin

Fantasy Football owners were dealt a major blow on Monday once it was confirmed that Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin will be out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in Sunday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints. Godwin suffered the injury after a hit by PJ Williams and the worst scenario was confirmed.

For owners who have Godwin on the roster, this represents a huge loss just before the final rounds of the playoffs. Godwin was a sure starter as it gets, even in a deep Buccaneers’ offense, and there’s no doubt he’s going to be missed both in the NFL and in Fantasy Football for the final regular season weeks.

If you’re one of those players who’ll have to conquer Godwin’s absence, here are three possible receiver replacements for him:

#1 – Tyler Johnson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The first name on the list is probably Godwin’s main replacement. Tyler Johnson led the Buccaneers in wide receivers snaps against the New Orleans Saints with 51, and he’s slated to take on a bigger role for the remainder of the season now that Godwin is out.

Johnson had seven targets in the game against the Saints and there’s the prospect of Mike Evans also missing next game as he also left the contest against New Orleans. He’s rostered in just 1% of fantasy rosters, so chances are you’ll find him available in your league. Check out the prospect of adding him.

#2 – Gabriel Davis, Buffalo Bills

Just like Johnson, the percentage of leagues who have Davis as a rostered player is small, with just over 12,6% teams holding his rights. He’s the WR3 in Buffalo, but the Bills are one of the teams that heavily relies on the passing game because of a lack of rushing threat, so the aerial production is there: 15 targets over the last two games, 4 touchdowns over the last three games.

Davis is not prone to give you major numbers like Godwin, but you won’t find players of this caliber available so late in the season. He’s probably available in your league and you might want to check him before anybody else does: he’s surely attracting the attention of fantasy owners with his late season exhibitions.

#3 – A. J. Green, Arizona Cardinals

Closing the list, Green might look like a weird option to be here, but he’s only on the roster in 44% of fantasy football rosters, and he’s slated to get better numbers for the final weeks of the season now that DeAndre Hopkins is out until mid-January. The Cardinals’ high powered-offense demands a lot of their receivers, and Green’s usage will increase for the final weeks.

Green has been a low-end WR2 for most of the season, but not only his production is looking up with Hopkins’ injury, he’s been on a roll for the last two weeks, with 18 targets from Kyler Murray. Go after him if he’s still available in your league, you might find amazing value.
